2001 dodge ram 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A heavy-duty full-size with everyday comfort. introductionthough it's now the oldest design among current full-size pickups, the dodge ram may still be the best-looking truck on the market. Clearly, it's the most stylish. it drives and rides well with quick steering and excellent brakes. Five engines are offered: 3. 9-liter v6, 5. 2-liter v8, 5. 9-liter v8, 8. 0-liter v10 and two cummins 5. 9-liter diesel inline-6 choices. Every engine comes with a choice of 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Short and long beds are available. the 5. 2-liter v8 produces 230 horsepower, while the 5. 9-liter v8 generates 245 horsepower and an impressive 335 pounds-feet of torque. The basic cummins diesel produces 235 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque, while the new-for-2001 high-output version cranks out 245 horsepower and a stump-pulling 505 pounds-feet of torque. standard, club cab and quad cab bodies are available in lt, laramie slt, and sst trim levels. The bold design with broad-shouldered front fenders is reminiscent of big freightliners steaming down the road with a full load of logs. It remains the best-looking pickup on the market. To improve structural rigidity, dodge designed a beam that runs laterally under the truck, and reinforced both the a and c pillars. Side door guard beams were also added to improve protection from side impacts. the optional sport package comes with a body-colored grille and front and rear bumpers, decals, fog lamps, outline white letter tires, and cast aluminum wheels. The absence of a b-pillar makes it much easier to get in or out of the rear seat; it also makes it much easier to stick something behind the front seats. This includes a new steering wheel design, a big storage compartment, an extra power point, and new cupholders designed to handle any commercially available drink container. Other recent improvements include a keyless remote entry system, an upgraded base sound system, a cassette and cd sound system option and a new center console. The instrument pod features vacuum-fluorescent odometer and trip odometer that are tamperproof, and there are driver-programmable keyless entry key fobs. Other interior features include heated power mirrors, illuminated power door locks and window switches, and an optional security alarm system. the front seat in all rams is divided 40/20/40, with a huge fold-down center section that doubles as armrest and writing table. When no one is sitting in it, the center position provides a large storage box, with divided spaces for coins, cassettes, maps or a laptop computer. The front seat belts are integrated into the seats themselves, which gets rid of messy hanging belts -- a particularly nice improvement for the wide-open quad cab doorway. the quad cab rear seat is the same one used in other extended cab versions. It's handy for children, pets and petite adults, but it is not very comfortable for adults on long trips. The bench portion of the seat flips up out of the way effortlessly from either side for hauling tools or cargo. The power window option comes with an express-down switch on the driver's side. Steering wheel mounted radio controls are optional. There are two new overhead console designs; one with and one without trip computer. This engine has a ton of torque and a broad power band, which makes it a great deal of fun to drive. Passing is effortless. The manual transmission can add flexibility in off-road situations, but we recommend the automatic for street use. Rear suspension is a conventional live axle with leaf springs designed to carry heavy loads. The dodge v8 pickup truck has for years had a special kind of presence on the street, and the ram backs up that presence with excellent street manners and ride. steering revisions that were new last year make steering much more precise than earlier models. Steering in the earlier rams was light and quick, but had a lot of dead space on-center and seemed to require constant left-right adjustments. braking, with discs in front, drums in rear, is exemplary. The ram stops quickly with superb straight-line stability. Recent improvements to the instrumentation, powertrain and body combinations have made it an all-around better truck.

2001 dodge dakota review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The baby bear would love this one. introductiondodge dakota takes the middle ground in terms of size. Some people find full-size pickups too big, and smaller, compact trucks too small. For them, the dakota seems just right. The dakota is larger than the ford ranger, chevy s-10, gmc sonoma, toyota tacoma and other so-called compact pickups, but it's not quite as big as a ford f-150 or chevy silverado. for 2001, the biggest news is a redesigned interior with a more car-like feel. lineupdodge dakota is available in three cab configurations: regular cab, club cab, and quad cab. Club cabs are only available with two doors. choose from three trim levels: base, sport and slt. Base regular cab 2wd retails for $13,910; sport regular cab 2wd goes for $14,695; and slt regular cab sells for $16,810. Sport trim adds better seats and interior trim and upgrades to the exterior. The 4. 7-liter was new to the dakota line last year. Available on 2wd regular or club cabs, the dakota r/t sport group includes aggressive (255/55r17) tires mounted on 17-inch aluminum wheels, heavy-duty stabilizer bars, and a limited-slip rear differential. The r/t is lowered 1 inch. The package adds bucket seats, fog lights, special trim and a long list of convenience items. It adds $2,420 to a club cab and $2,380 to a regular cab. walkarounddakota shares its freightliner styling with the full-size dodge ram. Bold lines give it a big, burley look, like it's ready to take on anything that comes its way. regular and club cabs have a 6-foot 6-inch bed - a good size for a compact truck. The quad cab, on the other hand, has a 5-foot 3-inch bed. According to dodge, people seldom need the full length of the longer bed. Those who need more cargo space can consider an optional bed extender -an aluminum cage that flips over the lowered tailgate to extend the bed by 18 inches. Sometimes the bed extender works great, but a lowered tailgate with a mesh opening won't hold dirt back like longer bed with a solid tailgate. The instrument panel is easier to reach and easier to use, and almost all of the switchgear has changed. One example is the new rotary dial for the electronic transfer case, replacing the lever used previously. Door trim and carpeting are updated, as are the center and overhead consoles. Leather is now optional on quad cab. The driver sits high and there are no obvious blind spots. Optional 6x9-inch mirrors improve visibility rearward. The quad cab is roomy and comfortable. The front seat is a 40/20/40 split. The wide console works well as a storage area for miscellaneous junk, but it gets in the way when fastening seat belts. A pullout cup holder at the foot of the center section is a nice touch. Getting in and out of the rear seat is aided by the fact that there is no cutout for the rear wheels (like there is in many sport-utilities). There's good knee room, but not a lot of foot space for stretching legs. Like most of the smaller crew cab pickups, the rear seat back is bolt upright, and not very comfortable. There's plenty of headroom in the rear seats, however. Children and smaller adults should be happy back there, but taller folk will find the space confining. Unlike some suvs, the rear windows on the quad cab roll all the way down. a better use for the rear of the quad cab is to fold the rear 60/40 split bench seats entirely out of the way for a nice, secure storage area. Not all compact trucks allow the seats to be folded out of the way like these on the dodge. It also features a trip computer and odometer that reports fuel economy and fuel tank range. The console is part of the overhead convenience group 1160) and includes compartments for sunglasses and garage door openers, auto-dimming rearview mirror and map lights. driving impressionthe dodge dakota sport 4x4 quad cab is smooth and comfortable. Wind noise is a companion at higher speeds. the rotary dial for transfer case is easy to reach and operate. We hit one particularly sandy section and switched easily into 4wd without dropping speed. Later, on a steep hill, we switched into 4wd-low and easily walked up a hill that had a good 15-degree grade. on washboard sections of hard-packed dirt roads in 2wd, the back end has a tendency to lose grip at speed - common in unloaded pickups. We were impressed with the quad cab's turning radius. For a truck its length, it makes relatively tight turns. the brakes deliver straight and true stopping power. It's a powerful little devil, rated at 235 horsepower and 295 foot-pounds of torque. The 4. 7-liter engine can be paired with a five-speed manual or dodge's new 'multi-speed' automatic transmission. This transmission was designed in tandem with the 4. 7-liter engine and they are precisely calibrated to each other. Its onboard computer continuously adjusts the shift pattern to match the way the truck is driven. A tall first gear ratio gives the driver better initial acceleration. It selects one of two second-gear ratios based on load and driver input. Its reverse gear uses a ratio equal to the first gear, beneficial when backing up with a heavy trailer. summarydodge dakota is a solid, well-built truck that can be fun to drive. All-new compact boasts innovative design and features. introductiondodge has introduced a remarkable replacement for the neon. There's also a choice of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, the latter making the caliber a capable winter vehicle. The caliber is relatively affordable. Its starting price is below last year's neon, and fuel economy is respectable, achieving 28/32 city/highway miles per gallon in its most frugal form, according to federal government estimates. At the other end of the scale, an srt4 version is expected in spring 2007 with a turbocharged engine generating 300 horsepower. the front seats are comfortable, with lots of headroom, and there's a large amount of cargo space here. Packaging is functional, with folding rear seats that have an optional reclining adjustment and an optional fold-flat front passenger seat to make room for a ladder or more likely, a surfboard. A couple of innovative options, especially for a car in this price class, are an air conditioned compartment in the glove box to chill water bottles or sodas and a swing-down stereo speaker panel attached to the liftgate that converts the back end to a sound stage for beach parties or tailgating. the caliber is no sports car, but we most enjoyed the mid-level sxt model with the 2. 0-liter engine and five-speed manual transmission. dodge is gambling a huge chunk of change on the hope new car shoppers looking for value and function can be persuaded hatchbacks are acceptable again, that five-door, small wagons have a place in american garages. A sport package 645) includes fog lamps, 17-inch aluminum wheels and a sport appearance interior group with contrasting inserts on the cloth seats and color-keyed instrument bezels and gear indicator for the automatic transmission. Aluminum wheels are available 400). Audio options and other items listed above are also available. the r/t 19,425) comes standard with the 2. 4-liter engine, the cvt, and all-wheel drive. Standard features include the sxt features, the sport appearance interior group, cruise control, leather-clad steering wheel with audio controls, cargo cover, a sport suspension with performance steering and p215/55r18 all-season performance tires on aluminum wheels. Massive headlights are notched into the leading corners of the front fenders. A pouting lower lip-like bumper separates the grille and headlights from a slimmer, lower air intake and (uplevel) fog lamps. the side view shows strongly blistered fenders front and rear beneath a wedge-shaped beltline. The lower portions of the doors wear longitudinal moldings, again, body color or chrome highlighted, that look like a bi-level rocker panel but aren't, but that nevertheless minimize the caliber's height. Full-round door handles, either chrome-trimmed or body color, bridge scooped-out grip spaces. the roofline arcs cleanly from its junction with the hood just aft of the front wheel well over the side door windows to pinch off at the tail end of the rear quarter glass. Topping this arc but stopping at the top of the backlight (rear windscreen) is an unbroken, thick strip of black molding the caliber's designers say is supposed to work with the arc and the truncated back end to impart a coupe look. We're not sure why that was important or that it necessarily succeeds, but it does buff up the caliber's side aspect. the back end pulls from the magnum, too, with a steeply raked backlight beneath a roof-mounted spoiler and above a mostly upright lower liftgate, employing a hatchback style arguing against any comparisons with a traditional station wagon. A relatively short rear overhang and oversize taillight housings add credence to the argument. interiorstep inside the caliber and the dodge legacy is loud and clear. Gauges are large, round and gleefully legible. The center stack presents the stereo face and climate control panel in stark relief with functional knobs, buttons and switches and trimmed in matte metallic plastic or not-very-convincing wood grain. the shift lever extends from the base of the stack; the notched gate on the cvt makes ratio selections intuitive, the manual gearbox less so, but not bad for a front-wheel-drive. The power point serves neither the cell phone holder nor a radar detector well; located at the extreme base of the center stack, it leaves cords either draped over the center console's cup holders or dangling down the dash between the instrument cluster and the center stack. the mp3 player/cell phone holder flips up out of the front of the center console armrest and, while properly sized for an ipod or similarly shaped mp3 device, adapts best to candy bar-style cell phones. This eases climbing in and out. the front seats are comfortable, but far from plush, with decently bolstered back cushions. Bottom cushions, or squabs in designer lingo, are more flat than sculpted and a bit short on thigh support. Front-seat headroom is impressive, topping the five-door mazda3 hatchback by almost two inches, the five-door ford focus zx5 hatchback by almost an inch. It falls short of the pontiac vibe and toyota matri.

Built 2001 dodge ram 1500 5 speed m/t this truck runs very well and has more than enough power for itself. I built it less than 2 years ago. I had it apart recently to upgrade a few parts(listed below). I have not dyno tuned it yet but i do expect around 350hp now and with dyno it shoud be upwarsd of 380-390hp! Only results will tell.
