2001 toyota sienna review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A quality minivan through-and-through. introductiontoyota's sienna makes a good argument against buying an suv. It delivers an excellent ride, and comes with a smooth and powerful v6 engine and smooth-shifting automatic. The sienna also comes with toyota quality and it has earned top-notch government crash test scores. lineupthree trim levels are available: ce 23,905), le 25,755), xle 28,436). All are the same length, and all come with dual sliding rear doors. An optional power sliding door on the right is available for le and xle models 395).  of the three trim levels, the ce is basic: cruise control, and power windows, locks and mirrors are all optional.  mid-line le comes with all the popular features. It comes standard with dual-temperature air conditioning with separate controls for the rear, power windows, locks and mirrors, cruise control, privacy glass and better quality cloth. The xle upgrade package #1 1,610) provides leather trim and a premium audio system with radio, cassette, and cd changer. Also available for sienna is a huge power moonroof and a towing package.  new features for 2001 include an optional entertainment system (with a roof-mounted flip-down tv screen, vcr, and av outlets for video game systems), a restyled exterior, redesigned audio and climate control systems, and optional side airbags and (on the xle) electronic stability control. walkaroundwith its clean, conventional looks, the sienna is a classic minivan with subtle touches of sport-utility styling. The long, sloping nose is unmistakably minivan, but square lines elsewhere -- particularly when viewed from the rear -- recall a sport-utility vehicle. Where many minivans display vast sweeps of metal, the sienna has a relatively even proportion of glass to metal, another suv characteristic.  sienna uses a stretched version of the camry platform. It is built on the same georgetown, kentucky, assembly line as the camry. Basing the sienna on the camry results in nice road manners. These savings allow toyota to bring the price of the sienna closer to the norm for the class.  sitting in the driveway, the sienna looks neat and compact. Its just-right size fits in between the chrysler town & country and voyager. The sienna is 6 inches narrower inside than the chrysler minivans. interiordespite its moderate length, the inside of the sienna is roomy. Three-row seating is standard, and the rear cargo area is an accommodating 18 inches deep from hatch opening to seatback. The seats can be removed with the seat backs folded flat, which make them easier to handle. The seat latches are superbly executed; they release easily and are simple to re-install.  getting in and out of the sienna is easy. Dual sliding doors are now standard and ensure passengers get in and out in a hurry and minimize running around to the far side of the vehicle to grab a kid. Child-safety door locks defeat the inside door handles on all sliding doors. At the full-open position, an interlock stopper prevents sliding doors from sliding closed when parked on a downhill grade. A half-door stopper prevents the left-side sliding door from fully opening when the fuel lid is opened to prevent the door from making contact with the fueling area.  the optional right-side power sliding door can be opened by pressing buttons on the dash, keyless remote or b-pillar, or by pulling on the inside or outside latches. A switch next to the steering wheel allows the driver to override these buttons so that the power sliding door cannot be opened. The power sliding door feature works without having the key in the ignition. The power sliding door can be opened like a normal door when the power switch is turned off. The power sliding door senses when an obstacle is in its path and automatically retracts.  step-in height is much lower than that of an suv, making getting in and out much easier for shorter people, older people and everyone else. Once in, the driver enjoys an expansive view of the road, though the seating position is not as high as in many sport-utility vehicles. Visibility is excellent in all directions, thanks to all the glass. Big mirrors (power on le and xle models) offer a good view to the rear. Instruments are big, bright and easy to read.  all seating positions are very comfortable. Though the rear two rows of seats don't offer as much room as the bigger honda odyssey, dodge grand caravan or chrysler town & country, they provide enough room to comfortably seat six people. Little nets attached to the sides of the front seats are great for storing toll tickets, sunglasses or wallets. Fold-down cupholders next to the storage net secure drinks but flip up out of the way when not in use; they don't look like they'd hold tall drinks well, but securely held my venti-sized paper cappuccino cup.  the second row can be equipped with either captain's chairs or a two-place bench seat. The seatbacks fold down to provide a flat surface for food and games and cupholders. Molded into the doors are round holders suitable for one-liter bottles. Cupholders, up to 14 of them, are everywhere. The radio is now located higher in the da. driving impressionthe fact that the sienna is based on the camry is a good thing. So the sienna benefits from a lot of proven technology.  the result is a minivan with a ride as good as any comparable model. A big, tall box will never ride and handle as well as a low, sleek sedan, but the sienna is pretty good. The steering isn't as sharp, and the transient response isn't as crisp as some of the other minivans; it leans in the corners, and seems a bit mushy in transient maneuvers. But overall, the sienna handles well and its soft suspension makes up for any handling deficiencies with its smooth ride quality and solid stability on the highway.  toyota's v6 is easy to live with. It's smooth, reliable, and economical. It generates 210 horsepower, more than either the chrysler 3. 3-liter v6 or ford 3. 8-liter v6. Passing other vehicles on hills is easy: punch it and the sienna takes off, quickly putting the slower vehicle away. On turnpikes and interstates in pennsylvania, new jersey, delaware and maryland, the sienna offered excellent high-speed stability. Power was never an issue. Toyota recommends premium fuel. It always chooses the right gear, forming a team with the v6. Shifts are so smooth when cruising that they are nearly seamless; under hard acceleration the transmission provides positive shifts at the redline. Also in the sienna's favor is toyota's reputation for quality, durability and reliability, along with high resale value. model lineupce 23,905); le 25,775); xle 28,436). assembled ingeorgetown, kentucky. options as testedxle luxury package 3,285) includes leather-seating surfaces, second-row captain's chairs, leather-wrapped steering wheel, six-way power driver's seat, premium am/fm/cassette/cd with six-disc in-dash changer and eight lbl speakers; cargo net 45). model testedxle 28,436). 2004 toyota sienna review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The new class leader?. introductionthe toyota sienna is all new for 2004. Bigger and better than last year's model, it's the first in a parade of redesigned minivans and may be the new class leader. It's considerably larger than last year's model, and about $1,000 cheaper. Its v6 engine has been bored out for more power and now produces 230 horsepower, while a new five-speed automatic improves response and fuel economy. All come with the new v6 engine and the new five-speed automatic transmission. All are equipped with anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, which help the driver stop quickly and maintain control. The all-wheel-drive xle has a base msrp of $36,930.  numerous option packages are available for all grades.  safety features: a new latch system (lower anchor with tether for children) is used in all second-row seating positions to accommodate new-design child seats. Front side and side curtain srs airbags covering all three seat rows are standard on the xle limited, optional on all other grades. Before designing the new sienna, chief engineer yuji yokoya drove the previous sienna all over north america, through mexico, canada, and the u. S., through every state, every province, some 53,000 miles. A short, slight japanese man, yokoya-san was often accompanied by program manager john jula, a tall, burly american. An odd couple, they couldn't have been more different in stature, appearance, and temperament. But they shared a seriousness of purpose, a devotion to designing the best minivan ever created, and a strong sense of humor. Working with designers and engineers from around the world, they ferreted every weakness and shortcoming of the old (1998-2003) sienna and addressed it with this new sienna.  the biggest shortcoming of the old sienna was its lack of interior roominess. Yokoya saw families buried under luggage. He also determined it needed to be quieter so families could more easily converse on long drives. He wanted better seats. And he wanted to improve stability at high speeds, especially in cross winds and on crowned roads.  the all-new 2004 toyota sienna is substantially larger, wider, taller than the previous-generation model. Its wheelbase is 5 inches longer and the track is 4 inches wider than last year's model. Stretching 200 inches over a 119-inch wheelbase, the new sienna is the same size as the biggest minivans on the market: the honda odyssey, dodge grand caravan, chrysler town & country, ford windstar, and the long-wheelbase versions of the chevrolet venture and pontiac montana.  everything on the sienna is big and bold: big headlamps and big taillamps light up the night and give the sienna presence in the dark. Black pillars, instead of body-colored pillars, make the new sienna look even larger than its considerable dimensions. A big windshield, big wipers, and wiper-mounted washer nozzles designed for snow belt improve driver visibility.  the sienna presents a sleek appearance by minivan standards, enhanced by its steeply raked windshield and the black pillars. The slot for the sliding doors is cleverly hidden, offering a cleaner look. There's lots of room for passengers and cargo. Fold the second- and third-row seats flat and the sienna can carry 4x8 sheets of plywood.  getting in and out of the sienna is easy. The power sliding doors are smooth and quiet and move more quickly than in the past, helpful for impatient passengers. Manual sliding doors and manual rear hatch on the le and ce models have a quality feel as well.  the rear side windows lower partly, though not below the center of gravity of a toddler, and feature anti-pinch protection designed to reduce chance of injuries to small hands and fingers. A nice feature is the availability of sunshades for the second- and third-row seats, which filters strong sunlight better than privacy glass.  up front the driver sits before a smooth, organic dash. Toyota says it splurged on the seats, which are designed to offer comfort for a variety of body shapes over long periods of time. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes. The ce comes with a nice cloth interior, though the door inserts are plain. Le features nicer cloth, nicer door inserts, and other trim. Two glove boxes are provided and a big center console holds 12 cds. Armrest compartments can each hold six cds and there's a spot for a small cell phone just to the right of the shifter. The dry cleaning hooks look big enough to accomodate a load of dry cleaning. In back are hooks for holding grocery bags. There's comparably good legroom and it feels roomy and airy with good room next to the passenger's head. That's impressive given that the sienna is fitted with side-curtain type airbags; they do not intrude into rear headroom as much as other designs. When not needed, the second-row seats tumble forward, presenting a friendly seat bottom to cargo or pets. The second-row seats are easy to remove and reinstall, though the captain's chairs weigh 49 pounds each.  seven. 2004 toyota matrix review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Practical and affordable, sporty and stylish. introductionthe toyota matrix is part car, part wagon, part minivan, part suv. Toyota even calls it a cuv for compact utility vehicle. We're not sure whether the acronym will catch on, but the matrix appears to have caught on. Matrix was introduced in 2002 as a 2003 model, and toyota sold nearly 30,000 of the compact wagons in the first half of the 2003 calendar year. Toyota claims the matrix combines the style and performance of a sports car with the functionality of an suv and the affordability of a compact sedan. Matrix is practical, with a big cargo area that can be expanded by folding down the rear seats. And it's certainly stylish.  while the high-performance xrs model has drawn some attention with its high-revving 180-horsepower engine, we preferred the 130-horsepower models for their more relaxed, more pleasant demeanor. lineuptoyota matrix is available in three trim lines: the standard matrix, xr, and xrs. Two engines are available. A wider range of optional equipment is available for the xr as well. Extra value package 1 270) includes cruise control, fog lamps, and front and rear spoilers. To this, extra value package 2 880) adds 16-inch alloy wheels and power moonroof.  a five-speed manual transmission is standard on matrix and matrix xr. Xrs is available only with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. It comes with 16-inch alloy wheels and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution. The matrix also shares much in common with the pontiac vibe. Gm and toyota developed the vehicles jointly, saving money for both companies and allowing each to offer the vehicles at an affordable price. Matrix and vibe do not look alike, however, as their styling was designed independently by toyota and pontiac.  the matrix is 3 inches taller but 8 inches shorter in length than a toyota corolla. It uses the same wheelbase but a wider track. These dimensions give the matrix a unique stance. It reminds us somewhat of the ford focus hatchback, which is slightly smaller. It is also similar in size to the chrysler pt cruiser, although the matrix has slightly less interior storage capacity due to its lower roofline.  and it's mainly the roofline that draws the eye. In a reverse wedge shape, the roof slopes down at the back while the belt line along the lower edge of the side windows slopes up, creating a sleek wedge shape to the windows.  the tailgate opens up just as in an suv or minivan, and the frameless window can be opened separately for quick access.  the front of the car has a purposeful looking nose with a relatively high hood line accentuated by a big grille. Engine cooling is achieved through a large aperture under the front bumper which features two small foglights.  a wide track, along with generous tires fill the wheel wells nicely, helping give the matrix an aggressive look. All in all it's a car that looks substantial despite its relatively small size. interiorsitting in a toyota matrix is somewhat like sitting in an suv, with upright seating and a commanding view of the road ahead.  the driver will find that the cockpit is unlike that of other toyota cars. The gauges glow red at all times, even during the daytime, as insufficient ambient light reaches them. Chrome rims accentuate each pod and fake brushed aluminum trim is used to surround switches on the dashboard and door panels.  the combined radio and cd player sits directly to the right of the instrument pods, while the heating and ventilation controls are immediately below. If the radio buttons and the general un-toyota appearance of the trim seems familiar that's because the interior is all but identical to the pontiac vibe, even down to the american delco radio.  the shifter is also right there, just a few inches from the steering wheel. It's conveniently located more than a foot off the floor in a position that's become fashionable in high-performance rally cars as well as the lexus rx, a luxury suv.  there's 15 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. The rear seat is split 60/40 and pressing a button flips the seat down easily to provide a completely flat floor capable of holding 53 cubic feet of cargo. The cargo floor is finished in a hard ribbed plastic designed to offer easy cleanup. An xr 4wd model we drove came with a carpeted cargo mat 56) that did a much better job of keeping cargo from sliding around, however. There are several other tie-downs positioned along the sides. Storage compartments and cargo nets provide owners with maximum utility. All of this makes the interior as versatile as any station wagon and better than most suvs. Shorter passengers sitting in the rear seats might find the view slightly claustrophobic due to the small side windows.  one cool feature is the available 115-volt power outlet located in the front dashboard alongside a regular 12-volt outlet. It's a low-power ac plug suitable for powering a laptop computer, but it isn't capable of running power tools. (toyota is working on that, however.). driving impressiondespite its boxy looks there is no denying that the toyota matrix is a sporty car.  shifting the manual transmission is easy. Although it might seem that the upright seating position and the high mounted gearshift would take some getting used to, it did not. Shifts are smooth and the standard engine revs nicely. Although the matrix is quite light it's not as fast as expected as the base engine only delivers 130 horsepower. Judicious use of the gears allows one to have fun, however. There's plenty of pep when driving around town, even with the automatic transmission. Equipped with the five-speed manual, the matrix gets an epa-estimated 29/35 mpg city/highway.  steering is precise and even if the center of gravity is relatively high there is little body roll. In fact the matrix feels just like any other small sporty car. That's not surprising as it uses many components straight from the sporty toyota celica.  in keeping with the car's sporty attributes, the brakes are effective.  we also drove the sporty xrs with the 180-horsepower engine. The power increase comes from variable valve timing and lift, which comes into play between 6000 rpm and the 8400-rpm redline. The six-speed gearbox ratios are the same as those used in the celica, but the matrix uses taller tires effectively giving it taller gear ratios. We quickly grew tired of the high-revving 180-horsepower xrs, however. We found that the xrs was not nearly as pleasant as the xr. With more weight (185 pounds more) and slightly less power than the front-drive models plus the friction from the all-wheel-drive system, the 4wd models do not accelerate as quickly as 2wd models. It's still peppy, however, and the all-wheel provides superior traction on snow, ice, and slippery pavement. Matrix xr 4wd autom. 2001 toyota sequoia review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Not quite ford excursion or hummer proportions, but still a near-monster truck.  however, the sequoia is also very civilized, quiet, comfortable, and, in the limited version we drove, very luxurious. With standard eight-passenger seating in three rows of seats, the sequoia can haul a boatload of kids (with or without the big dogs in tow).  the sequoia is bigger in nearly every interior and exterior measurement than the toyota land cruiser; however, the top-of-the-line sequoia limited is more than $10,000 less expensive. lineupthe sequoia is offered in sr5 and limited trim lines.  the sr5 comes standard with power windows, mirrors and door locks, cruise control, automatic climate control, and an am/fm stereo with both cassette and cd players. That's no surprise considering they're both built in the same assembly plant in princeton, indiana. The overall look is clean, purposeful, and, above all big. For example, we appreciated the extra front seat visors; while the primary visor is deployed above the side window, an additional visor can be extended down from the headliner to block the sun streaming into the windshield. Plus, there's a terrifically large bin between the front seats, which is split into two levels. The top level has a notepad holder and a place for coins. The bottom level has a molded, bookshelf-like cd holder to keep up to eight cds from rattling around. There's also enough room left over to hold a six-pack or a moderately sized purse. Other items make family outings a snap: multiple cupholders and storage bins scattered throughout the cabin; large openings for the rear doors which make installing child safety seats a breeze; front and rear air conditioning controls; and flexible seating arrangements. The third-row seats are easy to tumble forward (or remove, as they only weigh 52 pounds each) to expand the cargo area. There's enough space back there to clean out toys 'r us during a clearance sale.  however, all is not perfect. Toyota has a tendency to make its adjustable intermittent windshield wiper controls the opposite of what we would call intuitive. But it's the other way around, a minor nit, we admit. Also, the clock is mounted far too low in center of the dash and is obscured by the climate control switches. And not all of us are enamored with the hammertone trim in the limited model. driving impressionpiloting the sequoia on the open road is a pleasure. We loved the smooth and powerful v8 engine. It's a marvel of a power plant, and this truck needs all of its 240 horsepower. The transmission, too, was seamless in operation. With such a long wheelbase and overall heft, the sequoia delivers a comfortable ride on all types of road conditions. Wind noise at highway speeds wasn't obtrusive, but the cabin wasn't as hushed as lexus ls 430 sedan we recently drove.  but all of this luxury and comfort come with a price: the sequoia is an absolute pig at the gas pump. Epa says to expect only 14 mpg in city driving and a paltry 17 mpg on the highway.  braking, while never nerve rattling, takes a little getting used to. We say 'kids' because they're the only ones with the agility to hop over the middle-row to get to the three-person rear seats. The first is a simple button, located fairly low in the center of the dashboard. Engaging this extra traction can be done on the fly without having to stop the vehicle. Instead of modulating the throttle, we simply held the gas down, and it walked right up the hill, transferring torque to the tires with the best grip. Drop it into the low range, and the system automatically locks the center differential for go-anywhere traction capability. Perhaps not the best day-to-day family taxi in congested, urban areas, but certainly unbeatable for family road trips. model lineupsr5 2wd 30,815); sr5 4wd 34,345); limited 2wd 38,955); limited 4wd 42,275). assembled inprinceton, indiana. options as testedin-dash cd changer 200); front side-impact and side curtain airbags 500); rear spoil. 2005 toyota matrix review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Sporty, stylish and practical. introductionthe toyota matrix combines the style and fun of a sport coupe with the utility of a small sport utility at the price of a compact. Matrix is practical, with a big cargo area that can be expanded by folding down the rear seats. And it's stylish.  while the high-performance xrs model has drawn some attention with its high-revving 180-horsepower engine, we preferred the 130-horsepower models for their more relaxed, more pleasant demeanor. Most popular is the mid-grade matrix xr.  minor styling revisions freshen the appearance of the matrix for 2005. More important, side curtain airbags have been added as optional equipment and come packaged with seat-mounted side-impact airbags 645). Also optional on 2005 models is vehicle stability control, or vsc, which virtually eliminates skidding. This is in addition to optional anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, designed to help the driver maintain steering control in an emergency braking situation.  matrix is based on the toyota corolla and is built in california at a plant jointly owned with general motors. Matrix was introduced as a 2003 model. It has proven to be a popular vehicle: toyota sold more than 67,000 of them during calendar year 2003. Pontiac sold nearly 57,000 vibe models during that same period. lineuptoyota matrix is available in three trim lines: the standard matrix, xr, and xrs. Matrix xrs is a high-performance model powered by a 180-horsepower version of the 1. 8-liter engine.  the base matrix 14,760) comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, but it's also available with an automatic 15,560) or all-wheel-drive automatic 17,295). Air conditioning and an am/fm radio with cd player come standard along with newly added features including a lever-type seat-height adjuster, sliding sun visor, uv cut glass, and a new audio head unit design with a separate clock display. A power package 480) adds power windows, power door locks, and remote keyless entry.  matrix xr 16,240) adds abs with ebd, power door locks, power windows, and the remote key fob as well as a rear window wiper. It's also available with the automatic 17,070) or all-wheel drive and automatic 18,635). A wider range of optional equipment is available for the xr as well. Extra value package 1 270) includes cruise control, fog lamps, and front and rear spoilers. To this, extra value package 2 880) adds 16-inch alloy wheels and power moonroof.  matrix xrs 18,750) is available only with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. It comes with 16-inch alloy wheels and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution. A new jbl audio system with cd changer is optional. walkaroundthe toyota matrix shares much in common with the pontiac vibe. Gm and toyota developed the vehicles jointly, saving money for both companies and allowing each to offer the vehicles at an affordable price. Matrix and vibe do not look alike, however, as their styling was designed independently by toyota and pontiac. Both are based on the same platform as the toyota corolla. That's good because the corolla is an excellent compact and has good bones, but the matrix is radically different in appearance and differs in demeanor from the corolla.  the matrix is 3 inches taller but 8 inches shorter in length than a corolla. It uses the same wheelbase but a wider track. These dimensions give the matrix a unique stance. It reminds us somewhat of the ford focus hatchback, which is slightly smaller. It is also similar in size to the chrysler pt cruiser, although the matrix has slightly less interior storage capacity due to its lower roofline.  and it's mainly that roofline that draws the eye. In a reverse wedge shape, the roof slopes down at the back while the belt line along the lower edge of the side windows slopes up, creating a sleek wedge shape to the windows.  the tailgate opens as a liftgate, similar to that of an suv or minivan, and the frameless backlight (rear window) can be opened separately for quick access.  the 2005 models get a new front bumper and grille that conveys a feeling of aggressiveness. In the rear, new clear lens combination lamps provide a sportier appearance.  the front of the matrix has a purposeful looking nose with a relatively high hood line accentuated by a big grille. Engine cooling is achieved through a large aperture under the front bumper which features two small foglights.  a wide track, along with generous tires fill the wheel wells nicely, helping give the matrix an aggressive look. New wheel covers on the xr grade add to the sporty theme. Chrome rims accentuate each pod. Plastic trim designed to look like brushed aluminum surrounds the switches on the dashboard and adorns the door panels. The combined radio and cd player sits directly to the right of the instrument pod, with the heating and ventilation controls immediately below.  the shifter is just a few inches from the steering wheel, conveniently located more than a foot off the floor in a position that's become fashionable in high-performance rally cars as well as the lexus rx luxury crossover suv.  there's 15 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. It's a low-power ac plug suitable for powering a laptop computer, but it isn't capable of running power tools. driving impressiondespite its boxy looks there is no denying that the toyota matrix is a sporty car.  the standard engine revs nicely. Although the matrix is quite light, the base engine only delivers 130 horsepower. However, for those who enjoy shifting a lot, it's fun to drive when equipped with the manual transmission. Shifting the manual transmission is smooth and easy. Although it might seem that the upright seating position and the high-mounted gearshift would take some getting used to, this is not the case. Equipped with the five-speed manual, the matrix with the standard engine gets an epa-estimated 29/35 mpg city/highway.  even with the automatic transmission it feels peppy around town. And though the center of gravity is relatively high, it doesn't lean much in corners. It feels like a sporty compact car. That's not surprising as it uses many components straight from the sporty toyota celica.  in keeping with the car's sporty attributes, the brakes are effective.  we also drove the sporty xrs with the 180-horsepower engine. The power increase comes from improved breathing by using toyota's variable-valve timing and lift setup. At low revs the engine delivers no more performance than the standard 130-horsepower engine. The six-speed gearbox comes from the celica and uses the same gear ratios, but the matrix uses taller tires effectively giving it taller gears. We quickly grew tired of the high-revving engine, however. We found that the xrs was not nearly as pleasant as the xr. As noted, all-wheel drive is only available with an automatic transmission and the 123-hp engine. With more weight (185 pounds) and slightly less power than the front-drive models, plus the frictio. 2014 toyota corolla review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Almost all-new, almost all-brilliant. introductionamericans love winners, and toyota corolla is undeniably one of these, having been the world's most popular compact for a very long time. Starting out in 1966 as a go-kart-sized compact, 47 years later, it is starting into its 11th generation following the first redesign since 2008. Toyota corolla has evolved into a highly practical small sedan adequate for starter families.  the 2014 toyota corolla continues this line's inch-by-inch growth streak, fulfilling every carmaker's fond dream of being longer, lower, and wider. Compared to the previous model, the 2014 corolla is 2. 6 inches longer, with a noticeably increased wheelbase of 3. 9 inches. It is almost half an inch wider and 0. 4-inch lower.  this 11th-generation toyota corolla definitely looks new. The 2014 corolla is more stylish than last year's model, and more attractive.  inside are practical improvements in interior space and comfort. The front seats are excellent, comfortable and supportive. The instruments are first rate, though we were put off by the massive black dash. There's more trunk space than before.  there are also useful improvements in over-the-road handling and stability.  despite carrying over unchanged (with one new and interesting exception) the same line of 1. 8-liter inline-4 engines as used in the 2013 models, the 2014 corolla line achieves an incremental improvement, albeit small, in epa fuel mileage figures across its entire line. Also, the corolla le eco model, with its new valvematic system, achieves an epa-certified 42-mpg highway rating, highest among gas-powered compacts using an automatic transmission.  but every improvement, large or small, is crucial to maintaining a lead position in the red-hot compact-car marketplace. With intense competition coming from honda, hyundai, kia, subaru, and the new compacts from detroit, toyota will rely heavily on its longstanding reputation for building compact cars that are affordable, of good quality, and above all, extremely reliable. Since its introduction, toyota has sold 40 million corollas worldwide, with sales showing no signs of slowing. The mother company has rarely shown any sign of being flashy or trendy, choosing instead the road of reliability and dependability. The 11th-generation corolla faithfully follows that formula, providing few surprises, and just as surely, exceedingly few annoyances, an important consideration in an affordable commuter and errand runner. lineupthe base 2014 toyota corolla l 16,800) comes with a 1. 8-liter dohc 16-valve 132-hp inline-4, a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission 600), electric power steering, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes. The corolla le plus package 400) adds 15-spoke wheels, fog lights. Le premium 1,100) upgrades with fog lights, heated power seats.  corolla le eco 18,700) uses the valvematic 1. 8-liter dohc 16-valve 140-horsepower engine, rear spoiler, 15-inch wheels with wheel covers. Le eco plus 700) adds custom 10-spoke 16-in. Wheels and p205/55r16 tires, chrome beltline, eco drive buttons. Le eco premium 1,400) adds custom 10-spoke 16-inch wheels and p205/55r16 tires, chrome beltline, eco drive buttons, 8-way heated power seats.  corolla s 19,000) comes with a continuously variable transmission with sport drive mode or a 6-speed manual 900), integrated fog lights, chrome grille surround with piano-black insert, heated power outside mirrors with turn signals, rear spoiler, 16-inch wheels and p205/55hr16 tires, sport bolster seats with sport fabric insert and passenger seatback pocket, leather wheel with paddle shifters, multi-information display, one-touch lane-change turn signal, warning messages. S plus 700) upgrades with seven-spoke 17-inch wheels and p215/45r17 tires, rear disc brakes. S premium 1,600) includes eight-way heated power seats.  safety features standard on all models include anti-lock brakes (abs), electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), brake assist, smart stop technology (sst), electronic stability control (vsc), traction control, tire pressure monitor system, advanced 8-airbag system, seatbelt pretensioners, lower anchors and tensioners for children. A rearview camera, which can help the driver spot a small child behind the car when backing up, is included on upper trim levels. walkaroundthe new-generation toyota corolla definitely looks new. Whether it's the gaping mouth of the corolla le and l or the lexus-like charlie chaplin low mustache grille of the look-at-me corolla sport, the corolla has set aside the appliance look that characterized its precursor. While toyota is not renowned for taking aggressive styling steps, this eleventh-generation corolla wants to be seen and admired. On those terms, its outward appearance is a charismatic, dynamic success.  while the corolla is still a compact car, its exterior proportions have changed in some subtle but important ways, improving both its appearance and usability. It looks larger and more accommodating for the best of reasons: it is both. Compared to the previous model, the 2014 corolla is 2. 6 inches longer, with a noticeably increased wheelbase of 3. 9 inches. It is almost half an inch wider and 0. 4-inch lower, as well. These changes result in an impression of greater sleekness in addition to greater cabin roominess.  apart from the distinctive corolla frontal styling, this new model is a clean exercise in well-rounded contemporary small-car design. The standard headlights are led units, and the body's clean lines produce extremely low coefficient-of-drag figures of 0. 30 with 17-inch wheels, 0. 29 cd with 16-inch wheels, and just 0. 28 cd in the corolla le eco with 15-inch wheels. At highway speeds, these technicalities translate to considerable fuel mileage savings. The le eco with 15-inch wheels delivers corolla's epa highway mileage figure of 42 mpg.  speaking of wheels, the corolla is supplied with a fairly broad variety of really attractive sport wheels that give it an excitingly up-market look. interiorthe increased overall length of the 2014 corolla allows a considerable increase in cabin space and a genuinely impressive increase in rear seat legroom. The rear seat hip point is moved rearward a full three inches, producing up to 5. 1-inches more rear legroom. As never before, the rear of the corolla is a fully accommodating adult seating space.  increased overall vehicle length has also allowed an improved driving position, with the steering column angle reduced from 24 degrees to 22 degrees. Front seat adjustment range has also increased by over half an inch. Small as these changes sound, in the tight confines of a compact car, every increase in useable occupant space is hard-won.  the first impression climbing into the new corolla's driver's seat is disconcerting, however. The materials and switchgear are of high quality, with nice soft-touch controls and coverings applied throughout. It is a jutting, heavy-looking form that seems to take far more cabin space than it should, and its straight lines and hard angles have none of the fluidity and grace that enriches the rest of the new corolla. To be frank, it is old-fashioned and out of harmony. And the shiny piano-black center-stack trim that toyota is very proud of, while it is indeed elegant, only contributes to the dashboard's massive feel.  the big black dash is unfortunate because the gauges and instruments are first-rate, fully legible, and well placed to be read in dark or direct sun. The front seats are absolutely superb, with firm, well-fitted side bolsters and proper lumbar support. These seats would be perfectly at home in a high-quality sports car. Even the rear seating is exemplary. Given its size, the corolla makes no pretence of intending to seat three; instead, it provides two stationary, excellently formed bucket rear seats that will give steerage class the kind of comfort and support it deserves. Well done.  the new corolla's rear seat also provides slightly more shoulder room, to. 2000 toyota camry review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. America's most popular car. introductionthe toyota camry has been the best-selling car in america for the past two years. A spacious cabin, a big trunk, smooth, quiet operation and toyota's reputation for quality, durability and reliability all contribute to the strong sales of this mid-size sedan. Revised styling and an upgraded interior are designed to improve its appeal for 2000. lineupcamry is offered in three trim levels: ce, le and xle. Le v6 and xle v6 are equipped with a 3. 0-liter v6 that produces 194 horsepower. It comes standard with an automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, intermittent wipers, power door locks, mirrors and windows. A more elegant interior with premium cloth upholstery is a big part of the xle attraction. Value package #2 adds leather seating surfaces and trim, a power driver's seat, side-impact air bags and a power moonroof to the xle for $1,604 or to the xle v6 for $1,104. Xle v6 comes with 16-inch wheels and tires in place of the 14- and 15-inch rubber on the other models. walkarounda new grille and bumper design and new multi-reflector headlamps brighten the appearance of the camry for 2000. The taillights have been revised with a new rear bumper design for a smoother appearance. The side moldings were also redesigned. Xle models get a chrome accent on the moldings.  the changes are subtle, however. The camry is an attractive car and doesn't look stuffy, but its bland design does not break any ground and will not attract attention. It looks substantial without casting a big shadow. Angular lines stretch the car's profile and give it presence. Minimal overhang at the front and rear of the car push the wheels to the corners, giving it a sporty, dynamic stance. At the rear, a tall, square tail provides good aerodynamics. The camry's rigid body structure is designed to offer crash protection as well as form a base for smooth ride quality. interiorcomfort, convenience and a high degree of safety are among the camry's goals. Safety starts with avoiding accidents. To that end, anti-lock brakes are standard on le and xle models and are a $610 option on ce models. Abs allows the driver to maintain steering control of the car in a panic stop by preventing the wheels from locking up. Dual front driver and passenger air bags are standard. Front side-impact airbags are available as an option on all camry models for $250; side airbags are designed to help reduce the likelihood of injuries to the driver or front passenger in case of a severe side collision. Three-point seat belts are standard for all passengers including the rear center position, which is not available in all vehicles. Front seat belt pretensioners cinch the belts tight upon sensing, while impact and force-limiters reduce the belt's load on an occupant's torso to help reduce injury.  convenience starts with the doors, all of which open wide to facilitate easier entry and exit than many other sedans. The interior is roomy, thanks to the camry's long wheelbase. A generous amount of sound-deadening material makes the interior luxuriously quiet. The interior design and trim are pleasing, although edging on the ordinary. The flowing dash is no-nonsense, yet pleasing to the eye. It houses bright white-on-black instruments. Like most toyotas, the camry's controls and gauges are designed to be easy to use. Audio and climate control knobs are simple and within easy reach of driver or passenger.  thoughtful amenities abound. A second power outlet is located at the bottom on the front console, next to the built-in tissue dispenser. The sun visors have extension panels. The front cupholders hold 20-ounce bottles, and the rear cupholders can take either juice boxes or cans. There are numerous storage cubbies, and a capacious glove box.  the le comes with new fabric and an optional power seat package (no charge) that is also available in leather 1,710). Still, the le's cloth seats lack support. The cloth upholstery, even in the ce, feels built for extended use, however.  for 2000, all three trim levels have improved audio systems with am/fm/cd/cassette standard. The rear 60/40 split seat folds forward, increasing the load hauling ability. The gooseneck hinges on the trunk lid, which intrude slightly into the cargo area, are less than ideal, however. driving impressionlong days spent in the toyota camry fail to reveal significant faults with any aspect of the car. The camry feels smooth, soft and comfortable around town. It isn't a sports car and floats a bit on its suspension, but it handles well and is easy to drive fast. The 2. 2-liter provides acceptable acceleration performance and, once up to speed, keeps the car rolling along nicely. It has to downshift more frequently, and passing on two-lane roads requires more planning than with the v6. It earns an estimated epa city/highway gas mileage rating of 23/32 mpg when equipped with the manual transmission, 23/30 mpg with the automatic.  toyota's 194-horsepower 3. 0-liter engine is one of the best v6 engines in the industry. It provides good smooth power with good performance for passing and accelerating briskly from intersections. The ecti transmission mated to the v6 features an adaptive program that responds to individual driving styles. Drive more aggressively and it will delay the shift points for more spirited performance. This keeps the transmission from shifting above third gear. We found it provided much better acceleration performance when winding along california's coastal roads or up and down mountain passes. Traction control, which reduces front wheel spin for improved control in slippery conditions, is a $300 option for some models. summarythe toyota camry is a smart choice. Toyota vehicles historically hold a resale value well beyond the competition and are leaders in terms of quality, durability and reliability. That's why the camry is a perennial favorite among mid-size sedans. model lineupce 5-speed manual 17,518); ce 4-speed automatic 18,318); le 4-speed automatic 20,388); xle 4-speed automatic 24,068); le v6 5-speed manual 22,358); le v6 4-speed automatic 23,158); xl.
