2005 gmc sierra 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Denali luxury now with crew cab room. introductionthe gmc sierra is nearly identical to the chevy silverado but features more mature, restrained styling. With their 5-foot, 8-inch cargo box, sierra crew cabs are no longer than standard-bed, extended-cab models for easier parking and maneuverability. The 1500hd crew cab, which returns for 2005 after a one-year hiatus, can tow up to 10,200 pounds. Even the plush denali tows 8,100 pounds.  yet all sierras deliver a smooth, comfortable ride among the full-size pickups. Even compared to more recently introduced or re-engineered pickups from ford, dodge, and nissan, the sierra rides and handles very well. Although nominally classified as light duty or 'half-ton' trucks, the 1500s offer payloads ranging from 1,215 to 2,040 pounds, and tow ratings from 4,100 up to 9,000 pounds, depending on equipment. That's all the truck most consumers will ever need.  engine choices include a 4. 3-liter v6, 4. 8-liter v8, and 5. 3-liter v8. Available only as a crew cab with a 6-foot-6-inch bed (instead of the standard 1500 crew cab's 5-foot-8-inch bed), the 1500hd hauls 3,073 pounds with 2wd, 2,766 pounds with 4wd, and tows 10,200 pounds. Power is provided by the same 6. 0-liter v8 that's used in the 2500hd/3500; but the 1500hd should ride more smoothly than the heavy-duty trucks.  base models come with abs, air conditioning, cruise control, am/fm/cd audio, an attractive chrome grille molding, a chrome rear step bumper, and 17-inch chromed steel wheels. Carpeting and cloth seats are also standard. Regular and extended cabs are available, but not the crew cab, base prices range from $21,045 to $31,270.  the w/t (work truck) model deletes the cd player, chrome, cruise control and carpeting. These plane-jane trucks are aimed at commercial and municipal fleets, with prices ranging from $18,770 to $29,540.  sle trim adds fog lamps; power windows, mirrors, and door locks; a leather-wrapped steering wheel; overhead console; and other amenities. Leather upholstery is optional. The 4. 8-liter v8 and automatic transmission are standard on regular and extended cabs; crew cabs come with the 5. 3 and automatic. Prices range from $25,755 to $34,140.  slt trim, available on extended cabs and crew cabs, adds automatic dual-zone air conditioning, leather upholstery, power-adjustable bucket seats with heat and memory, floor console, heated outside mirrors, new gen6 onstar telecommunications and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The 5. 3-liter v8 is standard, with a higher-performing, all-aluminum 5. 3 in 4wd extended cabs. Denali comes with tone-on-tone leather, extra sound deadening, a bose audio system with separate controls for rear-seat passengers, and other exclusive amenities. It's equipped with steering wheel controls for the audio system, gen6 onstar, trip computer, and other programmable functions. Quadrasteer reduces sierra's curb-to-curb turning diameter by 26 percent and enhances high-speed stability. It comes packaged 1,995) with a limited-slip differential, heavy-duty brakes and clearance lights. walkaroundthe front styling of the gmc sierra ties it closely to the mid-size gmc envoy, and to some of the great gmc pickups of the past. The chrome-framed grille consists of three black horizontal bars that prominently display a big red gmc emblem. Chromed front bumpers include two airflow cutouts. Up-level models have a body-colored lower front fascia; base models have a light-charcoal fascia. An optional grille/brush guard adds front-end protection. A single onstar roof antenna combines the gps and cell-phone functions.  compared with the chevrolet silverado, gmc's styling is more conservative, more mature, with smoother, more sophisticated lines. Its chromed mesh grille looks like something from a hot-rod shop. Projector-beam headlamps and unique front fascia and fog lamps add up-market distinction, along with body color on the door handles, side moldings, tailgate handle, outside mirrors, rear bumper and tonneau cover. Chrome running boards with integral mud guards further distinguish the denali from other sierras.  for 2005, nearly all sierras come with 17-inch wheels: painted steel on work trucks, chromed steel on base and sle, aluminum on slt and polished aluminum on denali. The only exceptions are the 1500hd and the hybrid, which make do with 16-inch rims. Denali models are available with 20-inch wheels for a stronger styling statement.  the load height (the distance from the ground to the bed) for 2wd sierra models is just 31. 6 inches. For 4wd models, it's 33. 7 inches. The frame rails are hydroformed, a process that uses high-pressure hydraulics to shape relatively large steel components. Tubular crossmembers and roll-formed mid-rails increase rigidity further. This stiff structure enhances handling and ride quality immensely, while improving crashworthiness. interiorthe gmc sierra cab remains among the roomiest in the industry, with large door openings to aid entry and exit. The seats are big and cushy. Other pickup owners find the gm seats more to their liking. Also, the interior door handles are ropey and awkward.  the instrument cluster features highly legible gauges with white backlighting and orange pointers. The denali's gauges are unique and feature blue backlighting and white pointers. A driver information center reports on as many as 27 vehicle functions with an easy-to-read, single-line lcd display. A compass is incorporated into the overhead console, along with three storage areas for sunglasses, garage door opener, and small items.  audio and climate controls are sophisticated, yet easy to operate. The system comes with am, fm1, fm2, xm1, and xm2 bands. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls (on slt and denali) make it easy to switch among station presets and modes. Onstar is the leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services in the uni. 2005 gmc yukon xl review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Extra luxury in size extra large. introductiongmc yukon xl is a maximum-size suv for maximum-size projects: big trailers to pull, heavy loads to haul, crowds of friends or family (and all their luggage) heading off for a long vacation. Yukon xl is more suv than most people need. It's a well-equipped vehicle and a good choice for families of six or more. Even when fully loaded with people, there's space left over for large amounts of gear.  where the yukon xl really comes into its own, however, is when heavy-duty towing is needed. A standard yukon xl 2wd 1500 model is rated to pull trailers up to 8,400 pounds. A yukon xl 2500, the heavy-duty model, is rated to tow 12,000 pounds. This makes the yukon xl an excellent choice for families with boats or horses.  though identical in many respects, there are differences between the suburban and the yukon xl. Styling cues distinguish the gmc from the chevrolet.  safety features abound. Hydroboost brakes provide power assist even if the engine stalls. Yukon xl comes with a tire-pressure monitor. Traction control comes standard on 2wd models. Most popular is the 1500, the standard light-duty model, rated to tow trailers up to 8400 pounds. The heavy-duty 2500 2wd 40,185) and 2500 4wd 42,885) are rated to pull trailers up to 12,000 pounds. A 6. 0-liter v8 comes standard on denali and 2500 models. An 8. 1-liter v8 is optional 950) for 2500 models, and delivers 440 pound-feet of torque for maximum towing capability. Three rows of seats are standard. Denali is distinguished by unique exterior design cues. It is essentially a 1500 however, and is not available in the heavy-duty 2500 load rating. walkaroundthe gmc yukon xl is a long-wheelbase version of the yukon, just as the suburban is a long-wheelbase version of the chevy tahoe. Xl means extra long: yukon xl is based on the same platform as the yukon, but it's stretched 14 inches in wheelbase and about 20 inches overall. While the yukon can carry a lot of people or a lot of cargo, the yukon xl can do both at the same time. Gmc takes a more sophisticated, more understated approach to design than chevrolet. Still, the yukon xl shares the unmistakable profile of the 'burb.  denali trades the standard yukon xl's black grille for a bright mask of fine-metal mesh, but then swaps the base model's chrome bumpers for body-color units, keeping the overall flash level about equal. Round fog lights are neatly tunneled into the lower part of denali's unique front bumper. Cladding adorns the lower body, running down the sides and incorporating the front and rear stone guards; the denali's cladding is oddly shaped, but blends nicely into the color-keyed running boards.  for 2005, all yukon xl models come with a station wagon-style liftgate at the rear, with a glass window that opens independently. Made of lightweight aluminum, the liftgate is convenient for quickly adding and removing cargo. Side-by-side cargo doors are no longer available. They are the leaders when it comes to seating and cargo capacity, rivaled only by the ford excursion, which can't quite match the towing grunt of the yukon xl 2500. Big inside, the yukon xl is very roomy and, for the most part, comfortable.  the exception is the seats. Gm's bucket seats are big and cushy, but we don't always find them comfortable. The seat bottoms lack support, especially on the sides, and they don't seem long enough. Owners, however, particularly long-term gm loyalists, often disagree with this assessment. Bucket seats are standard on slt and denali models, and an optional on the sle. The standard front seat in yukon xl is a three-passenger, manually reclining 40/20/40 split bench with dual manual lumbar support and six-way power for the driver; we found this setup similar to the buckets in terms of comfort. Yukon xl comes standard with nice cloth upholstery. The optional ultrasoft leather makes this big truck look and feel like a luxury vehicle.  the bucket seats are separated by a deep center console that holds lots of stuff. The top of the console lid features a nice rubber-lined indention, handy for sunglasses and other items. It would be even better if the rubber was an insert that could be removed for cleaning. It would be better still if the top of the console wasn't angled forward: lay a clipboard there and it'll slide off.  ergonomics are otherwise excellent. The cup holders are superb, a good feature for people who live and work in their vehicles. Above are well-designed map lights that can be aimed. A covered power outlet for cell phones and radar detectors is conveniently located inside the ashtray compartment, in addition to the cigar lighter.  the driver information center is located immediately in front of the driver, below the speedometer. It's handy and easy to use, allowing the driver to program automatic locking and other features, as well as providing trip mileage, fuel economy and other data. Turn those features off, turn them on, or deploy them partially. Everything is programmable. A tire-pressure monitoring system continuously checks inflation pressures and flashes a warning on the instrument cluster should any tire lose air pressure.  audio and climate control systems are well designed and easy to operate. The manual heating controls that come on the base model (sle) are nicely designed and work well. Much better, however, are the digital three-zone automatic climate controls that come on the other models. They are sophisticated yet easy to operate, and permit separate adjustments for driver and passenger. Audio controls on the steering wheel make it easy to switch among station presets and modes, among other things. Xm satellite radio is nice to have around town for. 2006 gmc yukon review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The gmc yukon is gmc's full sized sport utility vehicle. Similar to the chevrolet suburban, the gmc is large, well-powered, and provides much cargo space. The yukon seats seven to nine passengers depending on seating options and is rated to tow as much as 7,700 to 8,100 pounds when properly equipped, enough to tow cars, boats and horses. The yukon is powered by a standard 285-horsepower 4. 8-liter v8. A 295-horsepower 5. 3-liter v8 is optional. Available options include a premium bose system, a floor console, and assist steps, power-adjustable pedals, xm satellite radio, stabilitrak electronic stability control, and side-impact airbags. Changes for 2006 are minimal.

2003 gmc sierra 2500hd review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Redesigned inside and out. introductiongmc sierra is redesigned for 2003. It comes with a bolder, raked front end. Its interior is new as well, redesigned for improved function and appearance. The brakes have been upgraded, and the engines run cleaner. New options include a bose sound system. It does everything pickups have always done, only better, with first-class hauling and towing capabilities. We think the sierra looks a bit classier than the silverado. Gmc's styling is more conservative, more mature, with smoother, more sophisticated lines. The standard sierra upgrades to cloth seats and carpeting. Sle adds niceties such as a cd player, cruise control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Slt trim, available on extended cabs and crew cabs, adds fog lamps, automatic air conditioning, and onstar telecommunications.  denali is the flagship, available only as an extended-cab, short-bed 4x4. Denali packs a 325-horsepower version of the 6. 0-liter v8, along with automatic transmission and an exclusive, sophisticated full-time all-wheel-drive system. Denali comes with onstar, tone-on-tone leather, dual-zone automatic climate control, extra sound deadening, a bose audio system with separate controls for rear-seat passengers, a unique console and other exclusive amenities. Eight buttons on the steering wheel operate onstar, along with the sound system, trip computer, and other programmable functions. Quadrasteer also enhances high-speed stability. Quadrasteer comes packaged with a limited-slip differential and a trailer-tow package.  professional 2457) is an option package available on all sierras that includes a special full-length console with concealed storage for a personal digital assistant (pda), cell phone, and other items; a seven-quart cooler; a cooled or heated cup holder, and a second big gulp-sized cup holder. The console can be converted for hanging file folders. The professional also features additional lockable storage under the rear seat, a bold chrome grille, 16-inch alloy wheels, a bed liner, and the z85 handling/trailering suspension.  sierra prices cover a broad range, starting at $19,391 for a 1500 2wd v6 work truck, and more than doubling to $44,250 for the luxurious, high-tech denali. A short-box, 4wd extended-cab sle would include the 4. 8-liter v8 for $29,963; and many popular 2wd models list in the $24,000-$28,000 range.  . walkaroundgmc sierra sports an all-new front end for 2003 that ties it more closely to the gmc envoy mid-size suv. The new grille consists of three black horizontal bars that prominently display a big red gmc emblem. New chromed front bumpers include two airflow cutouts. Up-level models have a body-colored lower fascia; base models, a light charcoal fascia. Premium models offer new 16-inch, six-spoke, bright-machined aluminum wheels, while a new optional grille/brush guard adds front-end protection. New bodyside moldings create a cleaner side appearance. The frame rails are hydroformed, a process that uses high-pressure hydraulics to shape relatively large steel components. Tubular crossmembers and roll-formed mid-rails increase rigidity further. This stiff structure enhances handling and ride quality immensely, while improving crashworthiness.  . interiorthe interior of the gmc sierra is extensively redesigned for 2003. Its cab remains the roomiest in the industry, and its door openings are the largest. New dual-stage airbags deploy with less force in less severe collisions. Three-point seat belts are provided in all first and second-row seat positions of 2003 models.  new sound and climate controls for 2003 are more sophisticated, yet easier to operate than last year's. The system comes with am, fm1, fm2, xm1, and xm2 bands. New audio controls on the steering wheel make it easy to switch among station presets and modes. Standard with the bucket seats is a revised and extended center console that flows into the instrument panel. It includes a storage compartment and a 12-volt power outlet at the rear. (all sierras come with three 12-volt power outlets at the bottom center of the dash.) vents and hvac controls for rear-seat passengers are mounted on the rear of the center console on crew cabs and extended cabs.  the instrument cluster has been revised for better readability. The denali's gauges feature blue backlighting and white pointers; other models have white backlighting and orange pointers. A new driver information center reports on as many as 27 vehicle functions (nearly twice as many as the previous message center) with an easy-to-read, single-line lcd display. A compass is incorporated into the overhead console, along with three storage areas for sunglasses, garage door opener, and small items.  extended-cab models offer surprisingly good back-seat accommodations. Climb through the reverse-opening rear door and the rear seat is reasonably comfortable. Rear-seat passengers get their own air-conditioning outlets and a set of drop-down cup holders. When cargo capacity is more important than hauling passengers, the entire rear seat assembly can be loosened from the floor with a wrench and removed through one of the side doors. Not exactly quick release, but a useful feature.  the rear seats in the 1500 hd crew cab are as roomy as the second-row of seats in a suburban. Rear seats are split 60/40 and fold down, providing a large protected cargo area inside the cab.  a panasonic dvd system 995) is available for the 1500hd crew cab, turning it into a real family vehicle. The system comes with a 7-inch flip-down screen, music-cd capability, two sets of wireless headphones with independent volume control, a wireless remote control and three sets of auxiliary video and audio inputs.  . driving impressionon the road, the gmc sierra is quiet and well behaved.  the extended cab model's long 143. 5-inch wheelbase improves its ride and enhances high-speed stability.  the 1500 hd 4wd crew cab does not ride as smoothly as the chevy avalanche, but the ride was reasonably good for what is practically a three-quarter-ton truck with no weight in the bed. Backing a long trailer into a parking space at a 90 degree angle is much easier with quadrasteer than without it. The system shortens turning circles with trailers and makes backing up more intuitive. Climate Control✔ Bucket Seats✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Player✔ Aluminum Wheels✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

2005 gmc canyon review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Representing a new breed of pickup. introductionthe gmc canyon belongs to a new breed of pickups. Called compact pickups in the past, the latest models have arguably outgrown that label. Automakers are beginning to call them mid-size pickups, though the government holds on to the old label. The latest crew cab models offer back seats that are actually suitable for human beings.  the canyon last year was launched as an all-new truck with an all-new nameplate. Canyon is longer and taller than the sonoma pickup it replaced, and it looks tougher and more truck-like, with aggressive styling that represents a major departure from the smooth-sided sonoma. And although the sonoma's long-bed option is gone, canyon's standard beds are deeper, for more volume; and canyon's chassis is rated for higher payloads.  as the first all-new gmc truck in its class for more than a decade, the canyon is significantly improved over the sonoma, with a stronger frame and a suspension that's friendlier to the fanny. Canyon is roomy and comfortable inside and has a nice, quiet ride. Even the z71, the serious off-road model, seems remarkably civilized. On the highway, the canyon feels solid and stable. Yet this a true pickup, with a unique frame not shared with any suv (although it is shared by chevrolet's mid-size pickup, the colorado).  canyon's towing capacity is considerably less than the old sonoma's because gm designed it to do what mid-size pickups do most: carry people and, occasionally, haul heavy loads in the bed. So canyon is tuned for ride comfort rather than brute trailer-slogging strength. The five-cylinder delivers good performance, better than some competing v6 engines. lineupgmc canyon is available in two trim levels: sl, which is essentially work-truck trim, and sle. It comes standard with air conditioning, am/fm radio, and 15-inch aluminum wheels. The front seats are a split-folding cloth bench, the floor covering is vinyl, and rear jump seats for extended cabs cost extra 45). The sle 17,140) adds or substitutes front bucket seats, a floor console and armrest, color-keyed carpeting, cd player with mp3 capability, a standard rear seat on extended cabs 20,260), and a leather-wrapped tilt wheel and cruise control on extended cab and crew cab 21,290) models.  the z71 high stance off-road package increases the ground clearance by more than three inches. Z71 also adds larger color-keyed fender flares, p265/75r15 on/off-road tires, a locking rear differential, and, on 2wd models, traction control. Z71s with 4wd get skid plates and tow hooks. Ordering z71 boosts the price of an sl canyon $1,700-$1,800, but the package includes sle goodies such as the bucket seats and cd player. Adding z71 to an sle ups the price anywhere from $2,000-$4,100, depending on cab style and how many wheels are driven. A 4wd sle crew cab with z71 retails for $28,020.  side-curtain air bags are optional 195-$235, depending on the cab style). A power convenience group (windows, locks and mirrors) is standard on crew cabs and optional 500) on other sles. New gen 6 onstar 695), with improved hands-free operation, is offered on sle only. Leather-upholstered, heated, and power adjustable driver and front passenger seats 1,495) are available as a package on crew cab and extended cab models during the 2005 model year, and a sunroof will be available.  commercial fleet models are also available with steel wheels and skinny tires (starting at $15,045). walkaroundwhen it appeared last year, the canyon put a new face on gmc's mid-size pickup. Nice guy: the black center grille with its floating gmc logo is surrounded by brightwork that extends to either side of the truck. It separates a complex looking array of lights composed of daytime running lamps, turn indicators, and high and low beams. Unlike the old sonoma with its rounded lines, the canyon has an edge. A slight dihedral at the front outer edge of the hood enhances its aggressive appearance.  whether regular cab, extended cab, or crew cab, the canyon has a balanced look. The regular and extended cab have 6-foot, 1-inch beds. The crew cab has a 5-foot, 1-inch bed in exchange for its larger cabin. Regular and extended cab models have steps in the rear fender ahead of the rear wheels, making it easier to reach and load things in the front of the bed. Extended cabs have door handles inside the door jam, at the front edge of the rear-hinged doors. The sle, however, is more oriented toward comfort with carpeting and more luxurious fabric on its seats.  although gm's interior measurements don't show it, the canyon feels wider inside than the sonoma, especially in the rear seat of the crew cab, which more easily accommodates three adults. Front and rear seats are chair height; that allows the driver excellent visibility over the hood and improves leg room and comfort for rear-seat passengers. The front seats are still the first-class section of the cabin, but those in coach won't have to endure the pain of the old sideways-mounted seats in old extended-cab pickups. The seat bottoms are flat and lack sufficient lateral support, so we always felt like we were sinking to one side or the other.  even the canyon's extended cab is large enough to orient its occasional passengers facing forward. Don't expect them to be comfortable, though. The back seat in the extended cab is cramped for anything but short trips to the store for munchkins. Better to flip the rear seats down, which opens up space for cargo. With modifications (like a fleece mat), it would work passably for a medium-size dog. The front-hinged doors on both sides of the extended cab offer good access to this area.  the instrument panel has large white numerals on a black background, with the orange needles that gm loves. They're easy to read at a glance. Lighting functions are clustered on the dash to the left of the steering wheel; there are no switches in any remote location. Turning on the dome light requires spinning the small wheel used to dim the instrument lights and we found this a bit challenging in the dark. We recommend opting for the electrochromic 175) mirror, which features a pair of map lights, compass and outside temperature display, and dims automatically.  the center stack, outlined with silver-colored plastic, neatly groups together 4x4, audio, and hvac functions. The emergency flasher button is high in the center where it's easily seen. The cruise control switches, however, are the same turn-signal-stalk system gm has used since the 1970s, albeit refined. Some people hate it; others are familiar with it and don't seem to mind.  the canyon features triple seals around the doors, another example of its refinement relative to the old sonoma. It develops 225 pound-feet of torque at 2800 rpm. Its torque, that twisting force that propels the truck from a stop and helps it tow heavy loads up long grades, is spread over a broad rpm range. The all-aluminum engine construction aids in cooling and, because of its lower weight, saves fuel and permits quicker acceleration. The five-cylinder is essentially the newly developed six-cylinder from the gmc envoy with one cylinder lopped off. The five-cylinder engine idles and cruises quietly, but the uncommon number of cylinders makes a peculiar siren-like sound when accelerating. It doesn't sound bad, just different. Recommended fuel is unleaded regular, another plus for economical operation. It's rated 20/27 mpg with manual transmission and 2wd. We found it worked well with the manual transmission, perfectly adequate for drivers who favor economy over power.  the z71 suspension package provides maximum ground clearance AM/FM✔ Bucket Seats✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Player✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Aluminum Wheels
